Sorry for a certain amount of radio silence here recently: I have been busy! And I have news!
First up, there’s a new game store in Edinburgh – Murphy’s Vault open on Tuesday 10th November (I’m updating my Edinburgh Gaming page to reflect this). Not only will they be selling card games and board games, but RPGs as well. They’ve also got space for four gaming tables, so may be useful for groups without a venue as such.
I’m also doing a whole bunch of work for Modiphius Entertainment, mainly on the Mutant Chronicles line. I’ve done the indexing on the Capitol, Brotherhood, and Cybertronic rulebooks so far. I’ve also collaborated proof-reading the Dark Symmetry campaign and Fall of von Holle adventure, coming soon.
I’ve been lucky enough to get around some of the big gaming conventions this year, but I’m looking forward to Dragonmeet in December. I’ve made a lot of new friends and I love running games for people at these – although I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it to them all next year. This year at Dragonmeet, I’ll be one of the Modiphius team running demos of Achtung! Cthulhu and other games – and possibly playing in them! Hope to see you there. On the subject of Dragonmeet. make sure you check out the Shadows of Esteren crew – they have an awesome setup stand!
Over the last year, I’ve run a lot of demo games – I’m a better GM than a player (I hope!) – so I’ve decided to dial things back a bit on that front: it’d be nice to be on the other side of the GM screen for once. I had a fun time playing the new Conan at the UKGE (you guys know who you are!), for example (which uses the same 2d20 system as Mutant Chronicles, Infinity, and John Carter on Mars). I think every GM goes through something similar – we have to at some point, or we go into burnout!
There’s a certain amount of fatalism prevalent to me these days: I just don’t have the time to do everything I want to! This is not a bad thing: it is a life being lived, I reckon! I’ve also decided that my own “Final Bow,” as GM will probably be the “Horror on the Orient Express” campaign. It’s a big campaign, and for all their faults; Chaosium”knocked it out of the park” on it!
